They will paddle the DeKalb County section of the river from Panola Shoals to Klondike Road, a distance of approximately 5.5 miles. Canoeing experience is not required but participants should be physically able to paddle for an extended period without tiring. The cost is $40 which includes canoe rental, insurance, and lunch. ** Aug 23, & Oct 18 – SOUTH RIVER TIRE ROUNDUP & CLEANUP-9:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m.
Just as every litter bit harms the South River – every tire, plastic bottle, aluminum can, glass bottle, basketball, soccer ball, golf ball, piece of Styrofoam, and other debris – every bit of litter removed from the South River leaves it healthier. Choose a date. Lend a hand. Make a difference. More details: http://ow.ly/z0pVi

** September 6 – SOUTH RIVER PADDLING TRIP 8:30 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.
Lorraine Park and Trailhead was once a junkyard for automobiles. Now it is a great place to have lunch, view the South River from two lookout points, and embark on a trip down the river. The river along this section is a little wider and flatter than the upstream section we paddle in DeKalb County. Around every bend is a surprise, an unobstructed view of the river that almost takes your breath away, slow lazy drifts reminiscent of what you would expect to find along waterways in South Georgia, and amazing tree lined bluffs characteristic of Georgia’s Piedmont forest.
Trip distance is about 5 miles and takes about 4 hours from put in to take out. Plan to arrive at 8:30 a.m. for a 9:30 a.m. departure. Canoeing experience is not required but individuals should be physically able to paddle for an extended period without tiring. Cost is $40 per person which includes canoe rental, insurance, and lunch served at end of outing. Shuttle service back to put in is provided. Space is limited. Contact Jackie (404) 285-3756 if you have questions. Kayakers should call for additional information.
