Want to have an awesome story to tell about your summer? Then sign up for a thru spot on PADDLE GEORGIA 2015! Register TODAY!

The Georgia River Network staff is embracing a year of many firsts, and we are excited to experience the Ogeechee River – the first blackwater river GRN has chosen for Paddle Georgia – with you! Join us as we journey 95 miles from Statesboro to Richmond Hill.

Don’t let some sandy and swampy terrain, deadfall, and tidal marshes intimidate you. Come experience one of our country’s last remaining beautiful, free-flowing rivers with us this June. It may be a bit remote and untamed, but it’s well worth the paddle! It’s an adventure the whole family will remember forever. You will absolutely fall in love with its tea-colored water, white sand bars and stately cypress trees.

As many of you know, the Ogeechee River experienced the loss of 38,000+/- fish in 2011, which led to a legal battle between the Ogeechee Riverkeeper and a textile treatment facility. In January of 2014, a settlement agreement was reached, and as part of the agreement, many protections and programs were ordered to be put into effect to restore the river. A lot of progress has been made toward the river’s restoration as a result of this, and we are so pleased to now be taking 400 paddlers down such an amazing river this June. This is something to celebrate by getting out on it and paddling it!

Off river, you’ll have the opportunity to learn more about the river and the region through water monitoring opportunities, tours of area attractions and nightly activities at campsites that include entertainment, games and programs highlighting the river’s cultural and natural heritage. An educational adventure for the whole family, Paddle Georgia will show you Georgia as you’ve never seen it before.
