UOWN events coming your way! Upper Ocone

November 7, 2015

UOWN events coming your way!
Upper Oconee Watershed Network is hosting two events this month.

1. UOWN & Friends Hike on Saturday, Nov. 14, UOWN will be hiking Cook’s Trail, which is a 4.1-mile Greenway trail that connects Sandy Creek Nature Center to Sandy Creek Park.

During the hike, they will discuss water quality issues that are relevant to the waterbodies along the trail as well as issues that are relevant to the watershed as a whole. UOWN will begin the hike at 10:15AM at Sandy Creek Nature Center and will end at Sandy Creek Park. They will have a van to shuttle hikers back to their vehicles at Sandy Creek Nature Center.

Please meet UOWN at Sandy Creek Nature Center at 10AM and plan for a 3-hour hike. If you have questions, please contact Hunter Jones at hunterleighjones@gmail.com.

2. Quarterly Water Sampling on Sunday, Nov 15- UOWN will be conducting their Quarterly Water Sampling at Sandy Creek Nature Center at 9 am.

After a brief orientation complete with light breakfast and coffee, volunteers will go to various stream sites in the Athens area where they will monitor for biological, bacterial, and chemical water quality. No experience needed. Just dress to get a little wet and/or dirty.

UOWN uses the information collected to track the health of their streams and detect water quality issues. The results are shared with local and state organizations. This is a great way to put in some outdoor volunteer time and learn water quality testing procedures.

Please come help UOWN protect their watershed. If you have questions, please contact them at info@uown.org. http://ow.ly/i/ebCLp http://ow.ly/i/ebCLO
