Volunteers Needed for Cleanup

May 17, 2016
Whitewater Creek Paddle Trail Project
Volunteers are sought to assist the clearing of upper Whitewater Creek (192 McIntosh Trail, Peachtree City GA 30269 ) of trees and trash on Saturday, May 21st, from 9am-12pm. Local residents with kayaks and canoes, and those available to hike along the shore can assist with removal of trash and trees that block navigation down the creek. Volunteers will meet at the Ridge Nature Area to organize and begin work. The goal of the day will be to clear as much of the blocking debris from the creek a distance of 1.3 miles down to the new Sherwood Road boat launch site.
Participants should bring eye protection, gloves, and wear a personal floatation device if paddling a boat. Also recommended: Knee high boots (rubber/waterproof), extra pair of shoes (hiking boots preferred or tennis shoes that they don’t mind getting wet/muddy), extra set of clothes to change into afterwards, sunscreen, bug spray, lopper-branch pruning tool or hand saws.
Chain saw operators are also sought who can assist with cutting up the downed debris in the creek. Drinking water will be provided.
This is water based physical activity, so please dress appropriately as volunteers may get wet and muddy. All participants will be asked to sign a liability waiver in order to take part. Youth must be with an adult.
