Paddle and Cleanup!

September 27, 2016
DO YOU want to clean up a river AND enjoy a nice paddle?! If yes, this event is FOR YOU!!!

Join Broad River Watershed Association for the Annual Fall Float, part of the Rivers Alive campaign to clean and preserve over 70,000 miles of Georgia’s rivers and streams. This event will take place on October 8th and 9th. Meet at 8:00am on the 8th on the Broad River WMA to clean up access at the top of Anthony Shoals. (take 72 east from Albertan – right onto 79 south – right on River Road – turn left onto 1st dirt road and go all the way to the River).

On the 9th, meet on Roy Woods Road, Comer, GA at the Broad River Outpost take out (take hey 172 from Athens, just before crossing the Broad River turn right onto Roy Woods Rd, go approx. 1 mile & look for BRWA signs). You will float down the river approximately 3 miles, taking out on PRIVATE PROPERTY and will pick up as much trash as possible on the float! The Outpost will provide return shuttle service for all participants & boats back to their vehicles. There are a few portions of this float that can be difficult. For safety reasons, only experienced paddlers should participate.

This year they will partner with Keep Elbert County Beautiful for two days of clean up events! On Saturday KECB will host a clean up of the public access points on the Broad River in Elbert and Oglethorpe Counties. Then on Sunday BRWA will host it’s Fall Clean Up River Float south of the Hwy 172 bridge.

Bring your own canoe or kayak or rent one from Broad River Outpost (706-795-3242) for $15 per person. Bring water and wear clothes you don’t mind getting wet in. They’ll have hotdogs at the end of the float. Shuttle will pick-up at 1:30-2pm. Keep Elbert County Beautiful will be providing the trash disposal and will weigh and process it at the Elbert County Transfer Station.

YOU MUST RSVP FOR THIS EVENT by October 7 by calling Susan Staley at 706-340-0442 or sending an email with your name, phone number, and number of people/boats in your party to info@brwa.org.
